The Kona is Hyundai’s answer to the likes of the Corolla Cross and the HR-V in the B-segment hybrid crossover class. While it’s not quite in the most popular vehicle segment in the Philippines, maybe this new development would turn some young (and young at heart) heads around.

Hyundai has updated the Kona in its home market for the 2027 model year. The changes are mostly geared towards personalization, and Hyundai is restructuring its pricing strategy for the crossover.

The Korean automaker has introduced a new black exterior package, which basically turns the Kona into stealth mode. The grille, emblems, skid plates, bumper garnish, and side cladding are all finished in black, along with the body-colored fenders and the 18-inch alloy wheels.

The interior is where things get interesting. While the layout is unchanged, Hyundai offers a new way for customers to personalize their Kona. They did it by introducing new skins for the digital cockpit, which can be downloaded through the BlueLink store or app.

The infotainment themes include Pokémon’s Pikachu and Ditto, as well as popular Korean cartoons like Pororo Fun Train Journey, Tayo Colorful Garage, and Zanmang Loopy. Hyundai is charging USD 20 for each for lifetime use, while the Hyundai Pony theme is offered for free.

In its home market, the Hyundai Kona is available in different powertrains, including gasoline, hybrid, and fully electric options. Hyundai carried those over for the 2027 model year, but they changed the equipment levels depending on the variant to offer the Kona at a lower price point. Those included the omission of synthetic leather, LED interior lights, an electrochromic mirror, and rear A/C vents in the lower trim levels.

In the Philippines, however, Hyundai is only offering the Kona in two variants, both being powered by the 1.6-liter, naturally aspirated four-cylinder hybrid shared with the Elantra.

Should Hyundai introduce the same updates to the Kona in the Philippine market? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
